INCONEL 600

Inconel 600 Nickelvac 600, Ferrochronin 600

Inconel 600 is a standard engineering material and has a great resistance to heat and corrosion. Inconel 600 also has high strength and can be easily formed. Inconel 600® can be hardened and strengthened only by cold work. Inconel 600® can be used in the heat-treating industry for muffles, furnace components, and for heat-treating baskets and trays.

Inconel 600 are oxidation and corrosion resistant materials ideal for extreme environments. Inconel 600 when heated forms a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. Inconel 600 retains strength over a wide temperature range, attractive for high temperature applications where aluminum and steel would succumb to creep as a result of thermally-induced crystal vacancies. High temperature strength of Inconel 600 is developed by solid solution strengthening or precipitation strengthening.

Inconel 600 is a difficult metal to shape and machine using traditional techniques due to rapid work hardening. After the first machining pass, work hardening tends to plastically deform either the workpiece or the tool on subsequent passes. For this reason, age-hardened Inconels such as 718 are machined using an aggressive but slow cut with a hard tool, minimizing the number of passes required. Alternatively, the majority of the machining can be performed with the workpiece in a solutionised form, with only the final steps being performed after age-hardening. External threads are machined using a lathe to “single point” the threads, or by rolling the threads using a screw machine. Holes with internal threads are made by welding or brazing threaded inserts made of stainless steel. Cutting of plate is often done with a waterjet cutter. Internal threads can also be cut by single point method on lathe, or by threadmilling on a machining center. New whisker reinforced ceramic cutters are also used to machine nickel alloys. They remove material at a rate typically 8 times faster than carbide cutters.

Welding Inconel 600 is difficult due to cracking and microstructural segregation of alloying elements in the heat affected zone. The most common welding method is gas tungsten arc welding. New innovations in pulsed micro laser welding have also become more popular in recent years.

Inconel 600 is often encountered in extreme environments. It is common in gas turbine blades, seals, and combustors, as well as turbocharger rotors and seals, electric submersible well pump motor shafts, high temperature fasteners, chemical processing and pressure vessels, heat exchanger tubing, steam generators in nuclear pressurized water reactors, natural gas progressing with contaminants such as H2S and CO2, firearm sound suppressor blast baffles, and Formula One and NASCAR exhaust systems. Inconel 600 is increasingly used in the boilers of waste incinerators.

INCONEL 625

Inconel 625, Chronin 625, Altemp 625, Haynes 625, Nickelvac 625, Nicrofer 6020

Inconel nickel chromium alloy 625 is used for its high strength, excellent fabricability (including joining), and outstanding corrosion resistance. Service temperatures range from cryogenic to 1800°F.

Strength of Inconel alloy 625 is derived from the stiffening effect with molybdenum and columbium on its nickel-chromium matrix, thus hardening treatments are not required. This combination of chemical elements also is responsible for superior resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments of unusual severity as well as to high-temperature effects such as oxidation and carburization.

The inconel 625 versatile and outstanding corrosion resistance under a wide range of temperatures and pressures is a primary reason for its wide acceptance in the chemical processing field. Because of its ease of fabrication, it is made into a variety of element and component for plant equipment. Its high strength enables it be used, for example, in thinner-walled vessels or tubing than possible with other materials, thus improving heat transfer and saving weight. Some applications requiring the combination of corrosion resistance and strength offered by Inconel alloy 625 are tubing, reaction vessels, distillation columns, heat exchangers, transfer piping and valves.

Inconel 625 is a nonmagnetic, corrosion and oxidation resistant, nickel-base alloy. It has high strength and toughness in the temperature range cryogenic to 2000°F (1093°C) which is derived largely from the solid solution effects of the refractory metals, columbium and molybdenum, in a nickel-chromium matrix. Alloy 625 has excellent fatigue strength and stress- corrosion cracking resistance to chloride ions.

Typical applications for Alloy 625 have included heat shields, furnace hardware, gas turbine engine ducting, combustion liners and spray bars, chemical plant hardware and special seawater applications.

INCONEL800

Incoloy 800H, Ferrochronin 800, Nickelvac 800, Nicrofer 3220

Incoloy alloy 800 is a widely used material of construction for equipment that must have high strength and resist carburization, oxidation and other harmful effects of high-temperature exposure. (For high temperature applications requiring optimum rupture and creep properties, Incoloy alloys 800H and 800HT are used). The chromium in the alloy imparts resistance to oxidation and corrosion. The high percentage of nickel maintains an austenitic structure so that the alloy is ductile. the nickel content also contributes general corrosion, resistance to scaling and stress-corrosion cracking.
Incoloy alloy 800 is used in a variety of applications involving exposure to high temperatures and corrosive environments. It is used for heat-treating equipment such as baskets, trays and fixtures. In chemical and petrochemical processing the alloy is used for heat exchangers and other piping systems in nitric acid media especially where resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking is required. In nuclear power plants, it is used for steam-generator tubing. The alloy is often used in home appliances for sheathing of electric heating elements. In the production of paper pulp, digester liquid heaters are often made of alloy 800. In petroleum processing , the alloy is used for heat exchangers that air-cool the process stream.

Incoloy 800 is a nickel-chromium alloy with good strength and excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization. The alloy maintains stable structure during exposure to high temperature, therefore incoloy 800 has good  corrosion resistance  to many acidic environments.

INCONEL 825

Incoloy 825, Nickelvac 825, Nicrofer 4221

Incoloy alloy 825 is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of copper, molybdenum and titanium. The alloy’s chemical composition is designed to provide exceptional resistance to many corrosive environments. The nickel content is sufficient for resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking. The alloy’s chromium content confers resistance to a variety of oxidizing substances such as nitrates, nitric acid and oxidizing salts. The titanium addition serves, with an appropriate heat treatment, to stabilize the alloy against sensitization to intergranular corrosion. The resistance of Incoloy 825 to general and localized corrosion under diverse conditions gives the alloy broad usefulness. Applications include chemical processing, pollution control, oil and gas recovery, acid production, pickling operations, nuclear fuel reprocessing and handling of radioactive wastes.

Incoloy 825 is a nickel-iron- chromium alloy with titanium, copper, and molybdenum. Incoloy 825’s chemical composition provides great resistance to many corrosive environments, such as pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion, and stress- corrosion cracking. Incoloy 825 has good mechanical properties from moderately  to  high temperatures. The hot- working range for Incoloy 825 is 1600 to 2150º F.
